Snowday for tomorrow, already??

So I got the following email at 2:43 PM, today. There is no new snow on the ground and I really don't think we'll be getting the predicted 12 to 18 inches of snow in the next 36 hours. Yes, I hope I'm wrong and I hope we have a snowday on Thursday too, but the weather guys have been predicting 1-2 inches over the last few days and we haven't had ANY new snow in a good week or so). Either way, I think this email is very premature...and I am so looking forward to this snow day!! (Usually I have to still go to work, but I don't this time!! This is coming at just the perfect time too).

Everyone,

This is to make you aware that the {School District Name} will be fully closed on Wednesday, February 2, and all events or activities that day are cancelled. That includes the {Day care programs, alternative education classes, and the Administration Building}.

I have just conferred with the County Sheriff’s Department and representatives from the National Weather Service. They have confirmed with us that the storm is in fact on track to hit our area in a few hours. The approaching storm is severe, with estimated snowfall likely to be 10-16 “ or more with winds of 20-30 miles per hour, gusting to 40 mph. The heaviest snowfall will be between midnight and 8 a.m., with high winds continuing throughout tomorrow. We are being advised that travel of any kind tomorrow will be treacherous and the wind chill will be near zero or below. These are blizzard conditions. No travel of any kind is advised on Wednesday.

With this in mind, our district will remain closed tomorrow. Most staff that normally report will not be required to do so; custodial & maintenance staff will receive direction from their supervisors.

Please make appropriate plans for yourself & your family, and stay safe tomorrow.

Regards,

{Superintendent}
