Thanksgiving!

It’s 9:23 AM and I’m already having a bad hair day. I used a littttttle too much smoothing milk on the top of my hair and it looks all greasy and weighed down I feel nasty already. I’ve already resorted to putting my bangs in a pouf, kinda like Snookie, but not nearly as severe as hers. Mine’s just a little bump. Anyways, I already can’t wait for the day to be over so I can wash my hair and start new tomorrow!

I am pretty super excited for Thanksgiving this week. Mostly I’m excited for a break from school/work. I haven’t taken a day off since the half day I took in August. I know, I know, Seth doesn’t get a break at all, 7 days per week, for a whole year, but still, I need a break. I am sad that I won’t be seeing him this Thanksgiving, but we've never spent a Thanksgiving together, so this is our “normal.” Next year, we’ll be together though. Come hell or high water, we’ll be together.

We’ll be spending the holiday with family friends I’ve known since I was 5. Usually we go to their house because they have grandparents here, and we go visit them. However, this year, Thanksgiving is at my parents house!! I’m so super excited for this for a few reasons:

  1. We don’t have to travel this year, which means I can sleep in a little longer, get up and go for a run (yes, I will do that!!) take a long time to get ready, help my mom cook, etc etc.

  2. My mom and I will be the main cooks this year. The last few years, our family friends have had a lot of health issues, and we’ve resorted to buying those Thanksgiving Meals all put together from Meijer or Boston Market or something like that (sorry if that’s what your family does, I’m just not used to it). Nothing was homemade and I didn’t like it. Oh, also, the turkey was made the night before, and it is dried out by the time we eat on Thanksgiving. NOT THIS YEAR! It’ll be a fresh baked turkey, with all homemade sides and it’ll be awesome.

  3. I will be making this cute little thing for our Thanksgiving table!! Isn’t he adorable?!?! He’s healthy, easy, fun and a good appetizer to make!!! I can’t wait!!!
(I won't be making the kid...just the fruity turkey part. I will be as excited as he is though, no joke). The recipe can be found HERE.

Last year, we made turkeys out of Oreos. We have a few kids at our holiday table, and I brought along the ingredients to make these cute little things. After the younger kids left, and the older kids (my age kids) were left alone with these materials, things went downhill and the little turkeys got x-rated. I scour the interwebs for fun things like this, and everyone always makes fun of me. BUT!!! Once they see me having so much fun with these things, they totally get into it making things too. Don't knock it till you try it!!

This is how our Oreo turkeys turned out. We had a variety of the candy corn colors, so this was a boring turkey. And he's got some crazy eyes. Still fun though.

They got a little sloppy though, and they were supposed to look more like this:

These ones are just beautiful!!!

What are your plans for Thanksgiving this year?!?

  2. This year I am staying home since I live with family. It will be extra special because for ONCE I have a vegan friend who will be joining us! It's always nice to not feel so alone on days like this when every other questions is, "Why aren't you eating turkey??"
